Papermaking machine fabrics, filters and reinforcing layers for elastomers, comprise monofilaments of copolymers containing 85 to 99 mol % of the structural repeat unit of the formula I <IMAGE> (I) 1 to 15 mol % of the structural repeat unit of the formula II -OC-R2-CO-O-R3-O-(II), where R1 is a radical of a dihydric aliphatic or cycloaliphatic alcohol or is derived from mixtures of such alcohols, R2 is a radical of an aliphatic, cycloaliphatic or monocyclic aromatic dicarboxylic acid or is derived from mixtures of such dicarboxylic acids, R3 assumes one of the definitions for R1, and the quantitative data are based on the total amount of the polymer.
