PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To reduce a margin at a rear end of a medium to be recorded as small as possible by stopping the rear end of the medium at a substantially proper position in the process of performing recording on the rearmost end of the medium. SOLUTION: A medium (paper) to be recorded is fed by an entire width X of a recording unit of a recording head, and recording is performed (S1, S2). Then, when the presence of paper is detected by a paper detecting means 21b positioned on the upstream side of paper feed from a paper detecting means 21a, paper is fed by a feed rate X to be printed (S3, S4, S5). Then, the presence of paper is detected by the detecting means 21b (S6) and, when no paper is detected by the detecting means 21b and if the paper detecting means 21a detects the presence of paper (S7), an I=1 signal is transmitted to a CPU, and paper is fed by a marginal length (b) at a rear end (S8, S9). Then, the presence of paper is detected by the detecting means 21a (S10) and, in the case of the presence of paper, an I=1+1 signal is transmitted to the CPU (S12). In the case of no paper, bxI is calculated (S13), and paper is fed by bxν(S15) or is read for b∼I from wns (S16,)(S14). In either case, recording is performed for bx I from the upstream end (S16), and a recorded medium is dischargeds (×S17).
