SILANE-TREATED CLAY PRODUCT, PREPARATION THEREOF, AND COMPOSITION THEREOF

PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To obtain a silane-treated clay product which is excellent in the effect of reinforcing rubber by mixing a hydrous kaolin clay with a silane coupling agent dispersed or emulsified in water with the aid of a surfactant and conducting surface treatment. SOLUTION: A hydrous kaolin clay is surface treated with silane having sulfur functionality in an amt. of about 0.7 to 5.0wt.% based on the dry clay or a silane having vinyl functionality in an amt. of about 0.2 to 5.0wt % based on the dry clay. The surface treated clay is heated and dried so as to obtain a dried product. Thus, a silane-treated clay product is prepd. In this case, before the functional silane is added to the hydrous kaolin clay, it is dispersed or emulsified in water with the aid of a surfactant. The above constitution can provide a treated clay product which can be used as a reinforcing filler or an extender for an elastomer material and can impart superior filler reinforcing properties in rubber to the conventional treated clay.
