The device has a stack base (12) with stack support face (12.1), and a sheet stop (1). A straight guide (6.1) applies a vertical displacement movement to the horizontal geometric axis (3) during movement of the sheet stop. An end stop (11,11') supports the sheet stop on a first, second, and any intermediate level, due to the effect of a first force, and while maintaining its alignment. The first force may be generated by a first regulator device (8), a second force may be generated by a second regulator device (9), which is independent of the first one.
