The invention relates to an electronic ignition lock system (1) on a motor vehicle with an electronic ignition key (2) and an electronic ignition lock (3) for activating an associated operating unit (5), such as engine electronics, immobiliser or the like. The ignition key (2) exchanges at least one encoded operating signal with the ignition lock (3). Means for decrypting the encoded operating signal in order to activate the operating unit (5) are provided in the ignition lock (3), a positive evaluation of the operating signal bringing about a first enabling of the movement of the ignition key (2). As a result, the ignition key (2) can be moved, in order to activate further switching processes, out of an initial position into at least one further position in a rotary and/or translatory movement. When the ignition key (2) is moved backwards in the direction of the initial position in order to deactivate the operating unit (5), the ignition key (2) is locked for a second time into an intermediate position in which the ignition key (2) is not released, in which case the release of the second locked position in order to move the ignition key (2) out of the intermediate position into the initial position in which it is released does not take place until at least one further switching signal is present. <IMAGE> |
