PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To obtain a prepreg excellent in higher order processability and capable of raising the development rate of its tensile strength and reinforcing fiber strength after epoxy resin curing, composed of reinforcing carbon fiber bundles and an epoxy resin and having both proper width and the number of filaments and also the ratio for these two parameters. SOLUTION: This prepreg is composed of (A) reinforcing carbon fiber bundles and (B) an epoxy resin, with the content (Wf) of the component A being 50-80wt.%, the number (F) of filaments in the component A being 20,000-100,000 and the width (d; mm) of this prepreg satisfying the relationship: F/8,000<=(d)<=F/2,400. This prepreg is produced by the following process: while rotating a heated grooved roller, the grooves of the roller is quantitatively fed with the component B at 30-100 deg.C at a rate of 1-50g/min by the use of a resin weight feeder and the component A opened it advance is brought into contact with the grooves so as to impregnate the component A with the component B. Thus, this prepreg is suitably used as a material for fiber-reinforced resin composite materials. |
