PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a polarized wave separator which is easily manufactured and in which the taking out of the respective polarized waves obtd. by sepn. is possible. SOLUTION: This polarized wave separator has a double refraction waveguide 4 having a double refractive index of >=1×10<-4> and Bragg gratings of a refractive index modulation type formed in the prescribed regions of the double refractive waveguide 4. The Bragg gratings 10 are formed in the double refractive waveguide 4 and, therefore, have different Bragg wavelengths according to the polarization direction of light. As a result, the polarized wave sepn. operation of reflecting only the specific polarized wave component from the inside of the guided light and allowing the transmission of the rest is made possible. |
