PRODUCTION OF CYCLOPRODIGIOSIN AND ITS SALTS

PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To obtain cycloprodigiosin hydrochloride by a simple purification operation from a marine bacterium. SOLUTION: Pseudoalteromonas denitrificans AK-1 capable of producing cycloprodigiosin (PdG) hydrochloride is cultured in a culture medium to intracellularly and extracellularly produce PdG hydrochloride and the PdG is collected. FERM P-15771 is used as Pseudoalteromonas denitrificans AK-1. PdG hydrochloride can readily be converted into PdG by carrying out column chromatographic treatment and used as a medicine such as an antimicrobial agent or an immunosuppressive agent. PdG hydrochloride can readily be purified, because, the bacterium does not produce cycloprodigiosins other than PdG hydrochloride.
