PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide video index automatically based on contents of video sources based on the motion of an object of a video image. SOLUTION: A moving object in a video signal obtained by a monitor camera 11 is detected in a video sequence by using a motion segment division method with a motion segment division device 21. The object is traced through data divided into segments in an object tracing device 22. A symbol indication of a video image is generated in a form of a graph with a comment describing the object and its motion. A motion analyzer 23 analyzes a result of tracing the object by a motion analyzer 23 and an index describing some events is provided as a comment of a motion of a graph. Then an index is provided by using a classification system based on rules to confirm concerned events such as appearance/disappearance of an object, placing/removal, entrance/exit, and motion/standstill. A video clip depending on a spatial timewise question and event and a question based on the object is called and a desired video source is extracted. |
