PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a production method of a color filter by which a black matrix layer having an excellent pattern shape can be formed and low production cost can be realized. SOLUTION: Color filter layers 1 are formed at a specified distance on the surface of a transparent substrate 4. Then an ink 21 for a black matrix layer is applied on the surface of the transparent substrate 4 to fill the space 40 between adjacent color filter layers 1 with the ink 21. Then the ink on the surface of the transparent substrate 4 is removed to obtain a color filter having a black matrix layer 2 formed between adjacent color filter layers 1.
