A transporter for large-calibre shells (9) with propulsive charges, each fitting into an individual sealed chamber, incorporates an immobilising and centering mechanism (20) for each shell, comprising a ring (11) which fits over the tip of the shell and an expander (21) which locks against the inner wall (8) of its container. The ring (11) is made from a thermoplastic material and adjusted to fit against the inside of the container, while the expander has two shoes which press the ring against the inside of the container by means of a compression coupling (37) with an axially-moving conical wedge (26). In a variant of the design the expander is operated by a cam and ball mechanism.
