PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To obtain a recombinant hepatic parenchymatous cell multiplier that is composed of a recombinant protein which has a specific amino acid sequence and develops hepatic parenchymatous cell multiplying activity, and is useful as a reagent for culturing hepatic parenchymatous cells, and a liver regeneration accelerator, and for basic studies of liver functions and studies of actions of different hormones and pharmaceutics of hepatic parenchymatous cells. SOLUTION: This new recombinant hepatic parenchymatous cell multiplier, which is composed of a protein consisting of an amino acid sequence of formula (A) or a protein which consists of an amino acid sequence in which one or more amino acids are replaced, deleted and/or added, and has hepatic parenchymatous cell multiplying activity, is obtained by preparing a cDNA library by using mRNA isolated from a human liver, screening the library with a probe, integrating the obtained gene into a vector, and expressing the gene in a host cell. This new recombinant hepatic parenchymatous cell multiplier is useful as a reagent for culturing hepatic parenchymatous cells, and liver regeneration accelerator, and for basic studies of hepatic functions and studies of actions of different hormones and pharmaceutics on hepatic parenchymatous cells. |
