PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method for producing a specific oligoglycerol in high selectivity and high yield by reacting glycerol with glycerol carbonate in the presence of a specified solid catalyst at a temperature within a specific range. SOLUTION: (A) glycerol carbonate is reacted with (B) glycerol in the presence of (C) a solid catalyst having a base point and an acid point on the surface of 80-250 deg.C to provide the objective oligoglycerol. The component C has both an M<1> -O bond (M<1> is Ca and/or Mg) and M<2> -O bond (M<2> is a metal of groups II B, III A, etc., in the periodic table) formed on the surface of the catalyst, and further, preferably, has the base point and the acid point. The high quality with only slightly colored oligoglycerol having a very small content of a cyclic byproduct and a sharp molecular weight distribution is obtained in high yield. |
