PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To widen charge/discharge range and enhance charge/discharge cycle characteristics by adding at least one of nickel hydroxide and nickel oxide to manganese oxide used as a positive material. SOLUTION: In the manufacture of an alkaline manganese secondary battery, a positive auxiliary material is mixed with a positive material, a mixture is molded in a cylindrical shape, and a cylindrical positive mix 1a is inserted into a positive can 1b to constitute a positive electrode 1. As the positive material, a mixture of manganese oxide and nickel hydroxide or nickel oxide, or nickel composited manganese oxide is used. Since the charge of nickel is conducted at higher potential than that of the manganese oxide, by detecting the charge of nickel, the completion of charge of a battery is simply detected. The generation of oxygen at the final stage of charge can be prevented, the range of voltage capable of charging/discharging is widened, the positive electrode is activated by charge of nickel, and charge/discharge cycle characteristics are enhanced. |
