(A) Coating a surface of an object with hyaluronic acid or a deriv. comprises: (1) reacting hyaluronic acid or a deriv. with an alkoxy silane coupling agent in an aq. soln. or an organic solvent, in the presence of a condensing or bifunctional agent, to give a soln. contg. the reaction prod. of the hyaluronic acid or the deriv. and the alkoxy silane coupling agent; (2) treating a surface of an object with a plasma; (3) coating the treated surface of the object with the soln. contg. the reaction prods.; and (4) removing the soln. from the surface of the object while allowing the reaction prod. to react with the surface of the object. Also claimed are: (B) a process for coating a surface of an object with hyaluronic acid or a deriv. comprising: (a) treating a surface of an object with a plasma; (b) immersing the treated surface of the object in a soln. contg. polyethylene imine; and (c) reacting the immersed treated surface of the object with hyaluronic acid or a deriv. in the presence of a carbodiimide and a substance selected from N-hydroxysuccinimide, hydroxysulphosuccinimide or hydroxybenzotriazolohydrate; and (C) the same processes as in (A) and (B) for coating the surface of an object with a semisynthetic polymer instead of hyaluronic acid.
