<p>A bipolar electrosurgical device (10) includes electrodes (16, 18) that are part of a tip (14) which is removable from a handle (12). The electrodes (16, 18) are configured for connection to electrical contacts (74, 76) when the tip (14) is attached to the handle (12), and disconnected from the contacts (74, 76) when the tip (14) is detached. The electrodes (16, 18) are mounted on a housing of the tip (14) so that the proximal ends of the electrodes (16, 18) are spaced from each other. The handle (12) has an opening which receives the housing, and a plurality of contacts disposed for connection to the proximal ends of the electrodes (16, 18) when the housing is inserted into the opening. The tip (14) and the electrodes (16, 18) are economically disposable, after e.g., a single use, while the handle (12) can be reused in multiple procedures with other tips (14). An inventory of differently constructed tips (e.g., tips having straight or curved electrodes, or having variously configured distal ends) may be provided for use with the handle.</p> |
