The camera is ready for use when the housing section (15) is in the extended position, while a wheel transports the perforated film strip (29). A rack (19) mounted on the housing section works with a pinion (20) fixed to a spindle (22) sliding but not rotating in the transporting wheel (21). The pinion is moved by the release mechanism (16) into engagement with the rack, and is held in this position after actuation of the release mechanism until the film has indexed for the length of an exposure area.
