A water ionizer capable of preventing the generation of unpleasant odor from water by eliminating bacteria that can be generated from a hollow fiber membrane using acidic water, and a control method of the water ionizer are provided. A water ionizer comprises: an electrolytic cell(500) for electrolyzing raw water to generate acidic water and alkaline water; a hollow fiber membrane filter(600) for filtering drinking water passing through the electrolytic cell; a water discharge pipe(950) connected to the hollow fiber membrane filter; and a control part for passing the acidic water through the hollow fiber membrane filter according as the drinking water is used or not, wherein a bypass pipe(960) for bypassing water of a pipe connected between the electrolytic cell and the hollow fiber membrane filter to the electrolytic cell is branched off from the water discharge pipe, and a pump(961) is installed on the pipe. The water ionizer further comprises a water-retreating pipe(970) branched off from the bypass pipe, and a water-retreating valve(971) installed on the water-retreating pipe. |
