One or more supporting arms (1) are coupled to actuating and connecting components such as a wall-joint (3), angle-piece (4), mounting flange (4a), etc. The strut (23) passes right through the arm and has coupling devices at the ends such as screw-threads (25,26), cap-nuts (27), clamps, etc. by which it is secured to the components (3,4,4a). This causes a tension load in the strut, and compression loads at the arm ends (35,35a) between the arm and these components. The strut can be offset from the arm axis (31), and the components can have grooves (29) or drillings to accommodate the strut.
