Combined thin film magnetic read-write head

The head has a bottom layer formed from a magnetically soft material, with the upper layer of the core (10) formed on the lower layer via a layer of an amagnetic material and a winding layer (9) creating a magnetic field in the two layers of the core. The bottom layer of the core is formed with an approximately uniform thickness which diminishes progressively in the direction of the two lateral edges. The lower and upper layers of the core are formed from a soft magnetic alloy with iron as principal constituent, combined with rare earth elements.
