The structure is formed from profiled, preferably hollow, supports (1) with longitudinal grooves to receive planar wall elements and to carry or support a ceiling or roof (15). The supports are arranged vertically at arbitrary positions in the intersection points (3) of a square or rectangular grid (4) on a desired ground surface (2). The supports receive standard prefabricated intermediate elements (8) along the width (5), length (6) or diagonal (7) of the grid. The intermediate elements may be wall panels, sheet components, glass sheets, doors or gates and include frame pieces of an installation unit. The support grooves may also receive elements to form a separate installation unit, such as electric or electronic displays, or a complete sanitary unit with wash basin and toilet. The dimensions of the intermediate elements arranged between the supports correspond to one or more lengths, widths or diagonals of the grid.
