PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an optical fiber having high reliability which obviates the occurrence of cracking and peeling at the boundary between a coating and a protective resin even when a connection protective part is molded to an outside diameter near the same as the outside diameter of an optical fiber coating. SOLUTION: The coating resins 2 are removed at the ends of two optical fibers and the end faces of internal glass parts 1 are butted against each other and are fused by heating. Suitable roughness is formed at the end faces of the coating resins 2 to form rough surfaces before or after the fusing by heating. A juncture protective resin 4 is thereafter injected and molded to finish these parts to nearly the same diameter as the diameter of the optical fibers. At this time, the end faces of the coating resins 2 are the rough surfaces 5 in the contact parts between the coating resins 2 and the injected juncture protective resin 4 and, therefore, the contact areas are increased. The coating resins 2 and the juncture protective resin 4 are consequently joined securely at the end faces of the coating resins 2 and the peeling resistance at the boundary surfaces is improved. |
