PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To obtain the subject compound comprising 2-amino-2,4,4 trimethylpentane salt of clavulanic acid useful as an intermediate capable of providing a pharmaceutically permissible alkali (earth) metal salt of clavulanic acid in a high yield and purity. SOLUTION: This 2-amino-2,4,4-trimethylpentane salt of clavulanic acid is the new one used as an intermediate for production of a pharmaceutically permissible alkali earth metal salt of the clavulanic acid and useful as the intermediate for a pharmaceutically permissible salt of the clavulanic acid important as an additive, etc., forβ-lactam antibiotic medicine because of inhibiting activities againstβ-lactamase. The compound salt is obtained by mixing a dried methylisobutylketone solution containing clavulanic acid with 2-amino-2,4,4-trimethypentane while stirring, filtering the mixture after stirring the mixed solution for 30min at room temperature and further for 2hr at 5 deg.C to separate the precipitated sediment and washing and drying the precipitated sediment.
