PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To obtain a glass composition suitable for construction and automotive glass applications. SOLUTION: This glass composition, which is blue-colored and has both infrared and ultraviolet light-absorbing effects, comprises basal glass matrix composed of about 66-75wt.% SiO2 , about 10-20wt.% Na2 O, about 5-15wt.% CaO, 0 - abut 5wt.% MgO, 0 - about 5wt.% Al2 O3 , and 0 - about 5wt.% K2 O and a solar radiation-absorbing colorant portion composed essentially of about 0.53-1.1wt.% whole iron, about 5-40ppm CoO and 0 - about 100ppm Cr2 O3 . The glass composition has a redox of about 0.25-0.35, visibility transmittance of >=55%, main wavelength of about 485-491nm and excitation purity of about 3-18%.
