Method and apparatus for supporting data transmission over analog and digital cellular telephone air interfaces

The station includes an interface between the mobile station (34') and a piece of data terminal equipment (46) which communicates using digital signals. A data pump (64) is connected to the interface which converts the digital signal to analogue output data signals. It decodes received analogue data signals to provide output digital signals for transmission to the data terminal equipment. The data pump is connected to an analogue interface (38') of the cellular telephone network for transmission and reception of the analogue data signals. The analogue interface has several channels and the data pump is connected to a selected channel of the analogue interface.
