PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To derive the flow rate of two kinds of materials flowing in a carrying medium. SOLUTION: The lapse change of a phase differenceΔϕand an amplitude attenuation factorΔA are measured at two points, waveguides 4a and 4b set in the flowing direction of a carrying medium in a flow passage 1 with a cross- section S. The flowing speed of coal ash 2 and steam 3 is calculated from the signal shapes of the measured phase differenceΔϕand amplitude attenuation factorΔA. Then, the weight density of each coal ash 2 and steam 3 is derived from correlation among the coal ash 2 and the steam 3, weight density, and the phase densityΔϕor the amplitude attenuation factorΔA. Thus, the flow rate of each coal ash 2 and steam 3 is derived from the product of the cross-section S of the flow passage 1, the calculated flowing speed, and the weight density of the coal ash 2 and the steam 3.
