PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To manufacture an electrode for a secondary battery in which the coming off of an active material is suppressed by covering with fluororesin the peripheral end surface of a plate-shaped metal foamed body and the fixing part of a metal piece fixed to a recess formed in the upper edge part of the foamed body. SOLUTION: An electrode B of a sealed alkaline secondary battery is constituted by supporting active material powder in a plate-shaped metal foamed body 1 having the specified dimension, and fixing a metal piece 3 serving as a lead to one of recesses 2a, 2b formed in the whole upper edge part 1a. The peripheral end surfaces 1A, 1B1 , 1B2 , 1C of the metal foamed body 1 and the periphery about 1 mm of the electrode surface are covered with a thin film 5 of fluororesin such as polytetrafluoroethylene. The whole surface of the recesses 2a, 2b containing the fixed part of the metal piece 3 and the periphery about 1mm of the recesses on the electrode surface are covered with the thin film 5 of the fluororesin. The coming off of an active material from the whole electrode is suppressed, and internal short circuit is effectively prevented. |
