<p>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a device and method for extending an image expressed by digital data without generating any undesired artifact. SOLUTION: An image processing system 30 includes a source image store 31, objective image store 39, arithmetic circuit 33, and look-up table 45. Initial image data from the source store and interpolated parameter data from the look-up table 45 are inputted to the arithmetic circuit 33. The arithmetic circuit 33 interpolates the image data from the source store, and generates data indicating an extended image. The extended image data are stored in the objective store. The generation of any undesired artifact in the image can be prevented by using an interpolation function selected for providing continuos transition between adjacent pixels in the processed image data.</p> |
