PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To enable replacing processing intended by a user by providing a replacement rule setting means for setting replacement rules to be applied when replacing a character string in a document with an abbreviated character string. SOLUTION: When a source sentence is inputted from an input part 2, a control part 1 stores the source sentence in a source sentence buffer 5, possesses a translated sentence by converting that source sentence to translated character strings corresponding to source sentence character strings for the unit of one sentence and outputs it to a translation buffer 6. In the case of this translation, the translated character strings corresponding to the respective source sentence character strings are provided by referring to a grammar dictionary and a translation dictionary 4a. Then, the translated sentence is generated by connecting the provided translated character strings so as to be the syntax structure of the translated sentence corresponding to the syntax structure of the source sentence. Next, abbreviated character string replacing processing is performed to the translated sentence according to the processing sequence of an abbreviated character string replacing processing program 3b. The replacement rules to be applied in such a case are previously set on a setting input picture by the user. |
