<p>The invention relates to novel phenylbutanol derivatives of formula (I), wherein R?1 and R2¿ are hydrogen or form together with the adjacent carbon atoms 6-membered saturated heterocycle containing one oxygen atom; R3 is lower alkyl, hydroxy(lower)alkyl or a group of formula (II) wherein Y is lower alkyl or lower alkoxy and m is 0, 1, 2, 3, 4 or 5; Z represents, independently from each other, hydroxy, lower alkyl, lower alkoxy, (lower)alkoxy(lower)alkoxy, halo or halo(lower)alkyl; n is 0, 1, 2, 3, 4 or 5 with the proviso that if R?1 and R2¿ are other than hydrogen, the value of n is at most 3; and (a) means a single or double chemical bond. The compounds of formula (I) are useful in treating toxic shock, multiple sclerosis, rheumatoid arthritis and Crohn's disease in mammals.</p> |
