<p>The data are, for example, the values of the pixels of an image. The method includes a step of determining parameters of a global contractive mapping, multi-dimensional and/or non-linear, the fixed point of which constitutes an approximation of all or part of this set. The parameters constitute a representation of the said set of data and allow, for the retrieval of the data processed, the implementation of a method of successive approximations converging towards the said fixed point. In a preferred embodiment (image compression) the said mapping is constructed on a partitioning of the set of data into elementary sub-sets (Ki) of 32 x 32 pixels. The global mapping consists of multi-linear elementary mappings of four working sub-sets (L1-L4) surrounding each elementary sub-set, in the latter elementary sub-set, of the form: <MATH> where g(x,y) is the value of the pixel of coordinates (x,y). The parameters (a1-a4, b) relating to each elementary mapping are determined, so as to make the global mapping contractive so that it converges towards the said image. <IMAGE></p> |
