An arrangement for monitoring the level of a liq. in a container, has an ultrasound transducer which is located on the outside of the container at the liq. height, and which contains a piezoelectric element. The element delivers an ultrasound impulse when excited by an alternating current impulse, and the impulse is transmitted by a membrane. The ultrasound oscillations are transformed into electrical signals. The membrane has projections which rest against the container wall, and a coupling layer is located between the membrane and the container. The transducer housing pref. consists of polyether ether ketone.
