A spade drill bit design in which the chip flow direction along the cutting edge (22, 24) is always in the same direction is disclosed. As the chip flow direction is governed by the chip velocity vector, the cutting edge (22, 24) is designed so that the chip velocity is always generally perpendicular to a line drawn on the main cutting edge (22, 24) to the center axis of the cutting bit. |
