The kernels are freed of the fruit flesh and washed in water to remove all the latter together with dirt, before drying at roughly 120 degrees C. Cherrystones can be used as the material, and drying can be for ten minutes in an oven. The temperature gradually rises to 120 degrees, giving the stones a moisture content of 5 to 10 and preferably 7 per cent. Hygroscopic material such as zeolite can be added to the stones, which can be contained in a hose of natural fibre such as cotton.
