PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To carry out a focus decision based on an individual estimate reference in every area of plural focusing detection areas and to accomplish a right focus decision in accordance with a depth of focus which is different at every focus detecting area by changing a focus recognition latitude at every position of the focus detecting are a. SOLUTION: The focus detector is provided with a focus detecting means 1 for detecting focus detection information corresponding to the focusing state of a photographic optical system in plural focusing detecting areas, and a focus deciding means 2 for deciding whether or not the focus detection information detected by the focus detecting means 1 is within the extent of the focus recognition latitude and estimating the focusing state. In the focus detector, the focus recognition latitude is changed by the focus deciding means 2 in accordance with the position of the focus detecting area. That is, the right and satisfactory focus decision is accomplished by the focus detector with giving consideration to the depth of focus which is different at every position of the focus detecting area and a hunting generation limit. Besides, the focusing state is quickly recognized in the focus detecting area where the focus recognition latitude is widened, then, the quick shift to a photographing allowable state is accomplished. |
