PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an electrophotographic element having satisfactory balance of speed and the minimization of breakdown. SOLUTION: This electrophotographic element has an electrically conductive substrate, a barrier layer and a photoconductive layer contg. a polymer binder in which an electric charge generating pigment has been dispersed. The pigment is titanyl fluorophthalocyanine or a eutectic mixture of titanyl fluorophthalocyanine with unsubstd. titanyl phthalocyanine and has 0.05-0.7μm particle size. Particles accounting for <=30% of the pigment are smaller than 0.15μm and particles accounting for <8% of the pigment are larger than 0.6μm.
