PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a device and method for annotating and naming which can automatically determine and display an optimum name or annotation for each displayed component by a user without inputting the optimum name or annotation, character by character. SOLUTION: Shape parameters are extracted from a component which is given specific input through an input device, and compared with shape parameters stored in a shape parameter storage means to decide at least one of the shape and function of the component, thereby automatically determining at least one of the optimum name and annotation for the component in the specific stage of its design.
