PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To simplify operation and to shorten time for connecting by judging and executing the switching operation of connection areas on the side of a communication network. SOLUTION: This system has an exchange 20 connected through a line to connection areas 1 and 2 respectively, composed of call incoming side portable telephone sets 40 and 41 and base stations 30 and 31, and when no terminal for terminating a call exists in the area shown by a connection area identification code, first inputted through a call originating side telephone set 10 by a caller, this call is connected to the connection area of the next candidate. Then, it is recognized on the side of the communication network whether or not the automatic connection to the next candidate connection area is to be permitted and that recognition is managed on the side of the communication network. Then, the execution of automatic connection to the next candidate connection area is reported to the caller and connecting operation is started, but when the caller refuses automatic connection to the next candidate connection area, the connecting operation is stopped.
