PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method for mounting optical element capable of mounting an optical element having diffraction gratings for diffracting a laser beam at an adequate position in the case where the optical element described above is mounted at a cap having a window for transmission of this laser beam covering a semiconductor laser element. SOLUTION: An adhesive 11 is applied on the circumference of the window 9a of the cap 9 or the peripheral part of the surface 5b having the diffraction grating 6 of the optical element 5. The optical element 5 is pressed to the cap 9 in such a manner that the surface 5b having the diffraction grating 5 is pressed to the surface 9e having the window 9a by using a pressing jig 122 having the pressing surface 122b freely tiltable in a pressing direction in the state of supporting the cap 9.
