Crevice corrosion resistant and hot formable austenitic stainless steel

A novel austenitic stainless steel comprises (by wt.) not more than 0.05% C, not more than 0.25% Si, not more than 0.40% Mn, not more than 0.040% P, not more than 0.003% S, 30-40% Ni, 20-26% Cr, 5-8% Mo, not more than 0.1% Al, 0.001-0.010% B, and 0.15-0.30% N. It also satisfies the following relationships: Cr + 3.3Mo + 20N /- 51; 5Si + Mn <= 32 - (Cr + Mo); and preferably 5Si + Mn <= 1.3.
