A method for washing a motor vehicle (1) by spraying an aqueous washing solution from at least one nozzle (4) moving relative to the vehicle - comprises generating a variable strength electric field between the vehicle and nozzle so that the vehicle becomes the cathode. The washing solution used has a pH of ca. 5.5-7.The apparatus used for this method is also claimed, comprising a wash cabin (2) into which the vehicle is driven for cleaning with at least one anode-forming nozzle mounted on a movable support frame (3).
