The forged connecting rod consists of a body (1) with little (2) and big (3) ends with bearings for a piston pin (4) and crankshaft journal respectively. The rod is in two symmetrical halves (5) with half-bearings (7) at each end, joined together by matching grooves surfaces (9), the grooves (10) preventing any sliding between the two halves once assembled. The grooves in the rod halves are formed by a series of curved projections and recesses, the curves lying across the faces of the half-rods and made in the shape of concentric arcs with their concave sides all facing in the same direction. After forging the half-rods are laid out on a circular bench and go through a series of machining operations to drill, laminate and groove them in preparation for mechanical assembly.
|
