PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To improve the appearance by eliminating margin from the periphery of a printed image. SOLUTION: Breadthwise (main scanning direction) position of an image p0 to be formed on a thermal transfer sheet 1 can be set in units of the heating element 61 in a thermal head 6. When the image p0 is as wide as the thermal transfer sheet 1, it is printed while being shifted by software according to the positional shift thereof in the breadthwise direction. According to an alternative method, an outline image of identical gray level as one pixels at the left and right ends in the breadthwise direction of the pixel or an outline image having gray level decreasing gradually toward the outside is provided additionally to the left and right end sides by an amount corresponding to an arbitrary number of pixels in order to fill the margin.
