The underground storage tank consists of an internal metal containment structure, an outer static facing (2) in touch with the surrounding soil (3) and a filler (5) such as hot-blown bitumen poured between the metal structure and the static facing through feed bushes. The metal structure is formed by two rings (1a-d) placed side by side with same spacing and featuring transverse (4) and longitudinal channels welded onto the edge of these rings for location and drainage of leaks. The transverse channels are formed by omega sections (8) and flats (9). The horizontal channels are formed by flats (10,11) and the metal structure is supported by the static facing by insulating U-bolts to which the external omega sections of the transverse channels are secured.
