The invention relates to substituted quinoline-2-carboxylic acid amides of the formula I <IMAGE> (I) their preparation and their use, and intermediates which are formed in the preparation of the compounds of the formula I. The compounds according to the invention are used as inhibitors of prolyl 4-hydroxylase and as pharmaceuticals (medicaments) for treatment of fibrotic diseases.
