PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To improve the copying efficiency by operating a brush during the image forming operation without interrupting the image forming operation, when a belt transfer counter counts the predetermined number of times during the continuous image forming operation. SOLUTION: In a multicolor image formation, a belt transfer counter value is checked at the start of an intermediate transfer belt cleaning operation, and the brushing treatment is started after a specific time (after the time t30 -t31 necessary for a belt face to reach a position of a sweeper brush from a cleaning position), from the start of the intermediate transfer belt cleaning operation, when the counter value reaches a value more than the predetermined value, and the treatment is finished simultaneously with the finish of the intermediate transfer belt cleaning. The brushing treatment of the intermediate transfer belt is executed during the image formation, so that the interruption of the image forming operation, and the elongation of the time to the start of the image formation, can be prevented, thereby the lowering of the image forming efficiency can be prevented. |
