PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To restrict decomposition reaction of electrolyte at the positive pole and reduce self-discharge rate of a secondary battery with a nonaqueous electro lyte comprising the positive pole made of a manganese oxide, a specified nega tive pole, and a nonaqueous electrolyte, by using the manganese oxide made by heat-treating a specific manganese compound. SOLUTION: A secondary battery with a nonaqueous electrolyte comprising a positive pole 7 made of a manganese oxide, a negative pole 1 with an active substance of Li, and a nonaqueous electrolyte (such as a liquid made by dissolving LiPF6 in a mixed solvent of ethylene carbonate and 1,2-dimentixythane) 8 uses the manganese oxide which is preferably a compound oxide of Mn and Li, or Mn compound added with an additive containing a sulfate (such FeSo4 -7H2 O), heat-treated at preferably 150-450 deg.C. The amount of the sulfate added is preferably 1.0-20mol% relative to Mn in the manganese compound. |
