A door closer having a piston (33) guided in a housing (1), at least one closer spring (34) which cooperates with the piston (33), a hydraulic damping device, and a closer shaft (46) or axle connected to the piston (33) via a transmission (25, 30, 48, 27, 35, 41; 47), with the transmission having at least one pinion gear (25, 30, 48) which is eccentrically journalled, characterised in that the pinion gear (25, 30, 48), at its periphery, and/or the complementary gear tooth arrangement (27, 50) associated with the pinion gear (25, 30, 48) has or have differently shaped teeth on sections of the pitch curve (26, 28) such as for example with respect to profile offset, modulus and/or flank angle.
