Adjustable hydraulic damper e.g. for vehicle suspension

The damper includes a valve which may be adjusted to vary the resistance to flow of the fluid. The damper incorporates an inner cylinder (2) containing a movable piston (5). There is an outer cylinder (3) acting as an oil reservoir containing oil forced out of the space (2b) below the piston, when the piston descends. When the piston rises, oil is forced through small holes in the side of the inner piston from the annular space surrounding the piston rod into an annular space (11) inside an intermediate tube. Oil flows from this space into a solenoid valve (13,19). It includes a piston valve (45) engaging a valve seat (41) the piston valve is connected to a main (A) and an auxiliary (B) damping valve.
