A monoazo compound is disclosed which gives a clear blue dyed-product superior in various fastnesses (such as wet fastness and light fastness) and which is represented by the following formula (1): wherein X, Y and Z respectively represent hydrogen, halogen, cyano or nitro, etc. (see claim 1); R represents alkoxy, hydrogen or halogen; and R 1 and R 2 represent hydrogen, optionally substituted alkyl, cyclohexyl, optionally substituted alkenyl, or a tetrahydrofurfuryl group, or R 1 and R 2 , together with the nitrogen atom to which they are attached, is a morpholino group. A method for dyeing or printing a hydrophobic fiber material, comprising using the compound, is also disclosed.
